Our Principles

Our principles describe how we translate our purpose into practice.

Young people experiencing barriers to education need more than a different curriculum. They need environments where they feel safe, relationships in which they feel understood, and learning that recognises their individual strengths, circumstances, and support needs.

These principles guide how we create that environment at MIS.

Principle 01

Belonging Before Learning

Young people learn best when they feel safe, valued, and connected. We intentionally create an inclusive community where relationships and belonging provide the foundation for participation in education.

Principle 02

Individualised Pathways

Every young person's experience is different. We respond to individual strengths, needs, and circumstances through personalised learning, appropriate adjustments, and flexible pathways.

Principle 03

Engaging & Inspiring

We provide meaningful learning experiences that help young people reconnect with curiosity, develop confidence, and experience success in education.

Principle 04

Safety & Wellbeing

We recognise that wellbeing and learning are closely connected. Our environment and relationships are designed to support young people to feel safe, regulated, and ready to participate.

Principle 05

Kindness & Connection

Positive relationships are fundamental to our approach. Respect, empathy, understanding, and connection shape the way our community works together.

Principle 06

Ownership of the Future

We support young people to recognise their strengths, develop independence, and build the confidence and capabilities needed to participate in education, employment, and community life beyond MIS.
