Who We Support
Establishing our beneficiary class: Tailored education for young people facing significant barriers.
My Independent School (MIS) supports young people in Years 7–12 whose individual circumstances create barriers to meaningful participation and achievement in conventional educational environments.
We recognise that access to education involves more than providing a standard classroom. Our school is specifically structured to respond to young people requiring higher levels of individualisation, reasonable adjustments, and specialized support to engage successfully in learning.
Student Circumstances We Respond To
Additional Learning Needs
Young people living with neurodivergence, cognitive or sensory challenges who require tailored adjustments, adapted delivery, and specific learning strategies.
Disrupted Educational Experiences
Students who have experienced significant gaps in their schooling, frequent transitions, or prolonged periods of absence that hinder standard progress.
Social, Emotional & Behavioural Barriers
Young people facing mental health challenges, emotional distress, or social anxiety that make conventional, high-density school settings overwhelming.
Educational Disengagement
Students who are disengaged or at immediate risk of completely disengaging from the education system without targeted re-engagement support.
Complex Personal Circumstances
Young people experiencing disadvantage, family disruption, or complex life circumstances that impact their ability to participate consistently in learning.
Need for High Individualisation
Students who require smaller group settings, flexible pacing, strong relationship-based support, and custom pathways to achieve meaningful outcomes.
Targeted Relief, Not Alternative Lifestyle Choice
MIS is not simply an alternative for families seeking a different educational philosophy. Our model is designed to respond to young people whose individual circumstances create barriers to meaningful participation in education and who benefit from a highly individualised and supportive educational environment.
Every Young Person’s Circumstances Are Different
We recognise that a formal diagnosis alone does not define a student’s needs or potential. Our approach begins with understanding the individual rather than expecting the young person to fit a predetermined model of education.
