Adjustments & Pace

Delivering the Australian Curriculum through personalized learning programs tailored to individual support needs.

Building Belonging, Confidence, and Engagement

Years 7–9 are critical years in a young person's educational development. For students experiencing disability, additional learning needs, disrupted schooling, or other barriers to participation, these years can also be a period when disengagement from education begins to accelerate.

The MIS Years 7–9 program focuses on creating the safety, relationships, adjustments, and learning experiences young people need to remain connected to education. Students are supported to build confidence, strengthen foundational skills, experience success, and develop positive relationships with learning.

Core Elements of the Middle Years Program

Australian Curriculum Framework

Students access core Australian Curriculum learning areas delivered at a pace and structure adapted to their needs:

  • English & Mathematics: Core literacy and numeracy tailored to individual entry points and functional goals.
  • Science & HASS: Practical, inquiry-driven learning connecting ideas to real-world contexts.
  • Health & Physical Education: Supporting physical health, self-regulation, and wellbeing.
  • The Arts & Design Technologies: Practical hands-on exploration fostering creative capabilities.

Individual Adjustments & Support

Recognizing that students learn differently, our program embeds reasonable adjustments and flexible structures to address barriers to participation:

  • Flexible, project-based, and practical assessment options
  • Structured, chunked learning tasks to manage cognitive load
  • Dedicated small-group and one-on-one instructional support
  • Low-sensory, supportive classroom environments

Relational Practice & Wellbeing

Educational participation is deeply connected to social and emotional wellbeing. Our team works proactively to ensure every student feels safe, regulated, and capable of taking steps forward in their learning.

Small class numbers allow staff to build meaningful, trust-based relationships that encourage attendance, engagement, and personal growth.

Preparation for Senior Pathways

As students progress through Year 9, we gradually build the foundational capabilities, routines, and self-advocacy skills needed for senior education.

By focusing early on re-engagement and barrier removal, we help prepare students for a smooth transition into Years 10–12 and individual senior pathways.
